Breakout: PP 4 Back Breakout

Diagrams

Description

This "wave" strategy is designed to draw the defenders into the middle of the ice while allowing the to F's (flankers) the opportunity to gain speed on the outside walls and be and outlet for the D to pass to.
Player X will swing out and take up the middle lane, adding another option if the defenders stay wide and take away outlet passes or lanes.
Player O will start from off one of the side walls at the far blue line. O will skate across and back down the middle slightly, creating a passing option when D steps out from behind the net. Player O should be looking to tip the pass outward to one of the 2 streaking F's on the walls. If that's not available, Player O can receive the pass and turn into the zone or even drop the puck back to either of X or D who should be coming up the middle. Lastly Player O can just dump it into the zone.

Key Points:
Timing - All 4 players must turn up ice approx at the same time. Player O needs to time their take off from the wall so that they are in motion rather than stopped when they arrive in the middle of the ice.
Passing - players must present a clear target for the passer, while the passer needs to make sure they are sending hard, direct passes on target.
Communication - players need to make sure they are calling for passes and making eye contact with the puck carrier at some point.
