Breakout 2 on 1 with forecheck
This a simple 2 on 1 drill that uses a 3rd Forward as a forechecker to pressure the D, who will read where the pressure is coming from and breakout the side opposite the pressure.
The drill starts with the coach passing the puck to D1, who is situated on either side of the goalie in front of the net. D1 carries the puck behind the net. Once the pass is made, F2, who is the forechecker in the drill, pressures D1 and tries to disrupt the breakout. F2 can chase D1 around the net, or try to cut in front of the net to pressure from the other side. D1 needs to have their head on a swivel and read where F2 is applying pressure from. Meanwhile, F1 and F3 swing down to get open for the pass along the boards so that they are available for the breakout pass.
After D1 reads the play, they pass to either F1 or F3, who will carry the puck outside the blue line, and pass and cross and then go 2 on 1 vs D1, who has closed the gap after making the breakout pass.
After D1 has passed, F2 peels off into the corner and their part of the drill is done.
Rotation of players is F1 becomes F2, F2 becomes F3, F3 becomes F1. D1 becomes D2.
