Quick Start Progression

Diagrams

Description

#1 -

#2 - Walk on toes. Turn toes outwards and dig toes into the ice. Lift feet and knees high and walk in a straight line. Use cones as marker for end of drill, skate back to line. Focus on strengthening ankles

#3 - Run on toes - same as above just quicker feet.

#4 - V-start. Lay out 3 sticks on front of each line. Every quick start begins with 2-4 very quick and powerful steps. Practice stepping quickly over sticks and sprint to the cone. Glide back into line. Focus on short choppy initial steps, fall forward to push yourself to move feet faster, and skate all the way to the cone.

#5 - Crossover start - same as above except first step is a cross over and then into same exact pattern

#6 - Quick start with tight turn back. Maintain good starting habits. Stay right next to cone by braking with inside foot and turning with back foot. Repeat quick 3-4 if needed going back.

All drills done 6-8 times per player.
