Skate Away (Half or Quarter Ice) F + D

Diagrams

Description

Skate Away (Top)
Coach dumps to corner, Skater retrieves and exits the corner quickly. 4, 5 or 6 strong strides up the ice and passes back to Coach when they hit the cones. REPEAT x3.
Each time the Skater turns around cone before retreiving next puck.

Outside Stickhandle (Bottom)
A. With puck Skater keeps skates down middle of cones and puck is stickhandled outside opposite cones. (Slow is key).
B. Puck stays down middle of cones and skater goes around each cone.

Notes: Skate Away - works on creating time/space for puck carrier. Simulates game condition. Key is to move yourself inot open ice before passing puck. Progression is to add in a Forechecker on the tail of Skater.

Outside Stickhandle - works on puck control away from the body which is a key element in beating opponent wide on a 1-on-1.
