In this penalty kill set up, the 4 players on the ice form a diamond. This is designed to be an aggressive penalty kill, as the players will actively purse the puck and force the opponents to make plays. In other words, instead of waiting for the opponents to attempt to pass through sticks and bodies (as in a passive set up like the BOX), this set up demands the penalty killers actively force the puck carrier to move the puck.
The aggressive nature of this PK requires dedication to positioning and a clear understanding of a number of switches. Active sticks, hard work, and stops & starts are also extremely important.
