Description

Continuous tip, slot, point - 1/4 ice

This is a drill to work on movement in the offensive zone that incorporates a screen and tip, and works on two options that players have when picking up a puck in the corner - passing to the point, and passing to the slot.

First puck:

The drill starts with X1 screening the goalie, and X2 with a puck at the point. X2 walks the line and fires a hard low shot towards the net. X1 screens, then tries to tip, and then tries to bang in the rebound.

2nd puck:

After that sequence, X1 skates to the corner to pick up a puck, skates up the boards for a second, and then curls back into the corner to skate towards the net. During this time, X2 delays for a bit and then will time their skate to the high slot to be in a good position to receive a pass from X1. X1 then passes to X2 and X2 takes a quick shot on net.

3rd puck:

After the 2nd puck, X1 will pick up in the corner and then pass to X3 for the drill to continue with X2 setting the screen and taking the job of X1, and X3 becoming X2. X1 heads to the end of the line and the drill continues like that.

Progression:

After the players get the hang of it, a coach can play some light defense so that players are forced to pass around the coach and to recognize when the options are open.
