Passing - Head man through neutral zone

Diagrams

Description

1) X1 skates down the boards and cuts across the ice in the far zone to receive a pass from O5.
2) X2 follows X1, delays and cuts in at the near blue line to receive pass from X1 (player must stay on sides)
3) X2 goes into the zone for a shot on net and returns to the back of the line.
4) X1 skates to the face off circle in his original zone to make the pass to the first player on the other line (O1)
5) repeat cycle

Notes: Reinforces good passing, head man passing and timing. Also helps to break players out of the habit of trying to skate through the entire other team in the neutral zone.

Although drawn as only one line skating, this drill runs from both sides. This is a flow drill, one whistle starts the and should continue without interruption.

Make sure player receiving the initial pass (X1 in the example above) skates into the zone to simulate a breakout pass, rather than trying to catch a home run pass in the neutral zone.

Category: Passing
Tags: Player passing the puck must execute clean, hard passes that lead the head man into the zone at full speed., Player receiving the puck must be aware of where the passer is and appropriately time the cut across the ice to receive the pass in stride to attack the zone.
