This is a continuous flow drill, at any given time there should always be 3 players on a weave and 3 players back checking. Reinforce constant end to end skating. Make sure backcheckers don't cheat the drill by curling early. Backcheckers goal should be to break up the play in front of them.

Any trap-type system REQUIRES all players to stick to their respective assignments. The purpose is to slow down or stop opposing team in the neutral zone. This particular system is designed to cut off passing lanes and force puck carrier to give up the puck by either: 1) losing control after initial contact, 2) attempting to make a bad cross ice pass, 3) weak dump in w/ no forecheckers in position to play the puck deep. Forwards must execute the curl behind the play to eliminate the outlet pass and then catch up to cut off passing lanes. Strong side forward has to corral puck carrier.

Identify and exploit odd man mismatches in the offensive zone. Isolate single penalty kill players to force mini 2 on 1's. Do not do the penalty kill unit's job by passing the puck around the periphery of the zone and not penetrating down low.

Player passing the puck must execute clean, hard passes that lead the head man into the zone at full speed. Player receiving the puck must be aware of where the passer is and appropriately time the cut across the ice to receive the pass in stride to attack the zone.
